Course objectives:

 

-         To help students revise, consolidate and extend their command of English Grammar.

-         To develop students' knowledge of basic grammatical terminology (metalanguage).

-         To familiarize students with major aspects of English grammar and usage.

-         To develop students' awareness of their problems within the field of English grammar.

-         To level out the differences in individual students' mastery of English grammar.

 

Focus on accuracy structures, usage, functions. Texts are used mainly for demonstrative purposes, in order to show how particular structures work in authentic discourse.

 

Course content:         

 

Module 1. Introduction to verb forms

§         The 'simple' verb forms

§         The 'progressive' verb forms

§         The 'perfect' verb forms

§         Comparison of tenses

§         Modal auxiliary verbs

§         Conditional sentences

§         The passive voice

§         Reported Speech

§         Verb patterns with ing forms and infinitives

 

Module 2. Vocabulary work

§         Adjectives (ending in ible, able, uble, ive, ous, ate)

§         Adverbs (place, time, manner etc.)

§         Comparison of adjectives & adverbs

§         Word formation

§         Nouns

§         Phrasal verbs

§         Prepositions

 

 

Requirements for crediting the course:

 

Attendance and participation, presentations, exercises and tests.
